Background

As part of ongoing marketing and policy analysis internships, in the spring of 2021, MSc student Kezheng Bai proposed to estimate regional differences on the various crop rotations on farm profitability by region in Manitoba. The basic analysis would be based on previous work by Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation and by Liu Yang, a previous intern in the program.

Kezheng analyzed the incomes of farms from the different risk areas using the Monte-Carlo simulations with variations in yield impacts from previous crop and other random variable generated from the distributions of these variables as collected and estimated by Yang. The simulation analysis covered yield risks and price risks that affect the farms’ incomes.
