Cross-Canada agronomic and environmental benefit of advanced 4R nitrogen management of grain corn

Crop Types
  • Corn
Collaborating Locations

Background

This project meets an important need to increase the use efficiency of nitrogen fertilizers to hold or reduce nitrogen fertilizer rates in grain corn without decreasing yields.

Objectives

  1. Determine if advanced 4R N management for regional conditions changes the most economic rate of nitrogen and improves return on investment
  2. Determine if advanced 4R management reduces N loss to the environment
  3. Determine if novel practice of single vs double injection bands in combination with depth placement and N source reduce N loss and increase corn grain yield
  4. Advance grower tools for in-season nitrogen rate determination
