Sunflower Variety Performance Trials
Welcome to the home of the Manitoba Crop Alliance (MCA) Sunflower Variety Performance Trials (VPTs). MCA co-ordinates the sunflower VPTs to produce an unbiased, regional collection of hybrid performance information from across Manitoba.
MCA provides the hybrid performance information obtained annually from small-plot trials to Manitoba producers. The VPTs have also been made possible by the support of the seed industry within Manitoba.
Annually, there are five locations planted that each include a performance trial for oil-type sunflower hybrids and a trial for confection-type sunflower hybrids. These five sites are generally located near Melita, Carberry, Rossendale, Beausejour and Elm Creek.
MCA would like to thank all the landowners who provide land for each of the trials and test locations on an annual basis. MCA would also like to thank the seed industry for all their support with the VPTs and all the trial contractors that conduct the small-plot trials. Without them, there would be no testing or regional performance information collected.
If you require any additional information on the sunflower VPTs or the interpretation of the results, please refer to the “Important Notes” section or contact MCA.
Results will be posted below as they become available.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR THE SUNFLOWER VARIETY PERFORMANCE TRIAL TABLES
CV = COEFFICIENT OF VARIATION: A measure of the random variation in a trial. A smaller CV value is more desirable.
LSD = LEAST SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE: Hybrids must differ by the LSD to be considered significantly different from one another.
SIGN. DIFF. = SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE: Indicates if a real difference exists between hybrids at an individual location.
