About Manitoba Crop Alliance

Governance

Our governance structure is unique among Manitoba commodity groups. Manitoba Crop Alliance (MCA) has four crop committees – corn, flax, sunflower, and wheat and barley. The committees are composed of delegates who are elected from the memberships of each respective crop group. The crop committees range in size from eight delegates for corn, flax and sunflower, to 10 for wheat and barley.

We are governed by a board of 11 directors. Each crop committee appoints delegates from its ranks to serve as directors, with three directors appointed by the corn committee, two each by the flax and sunflower committees, and four delegates by the wheat and barley committee.

Our governance structure provides a strong voice for each crop type we represent, while also allowing for a whole-farm, cross-commodity approach. The crop committees play a large role in setting crop-specific priorities and are responsible for directing research and market development activities for their crop types. The board of directors is focused on financial oversight, stakeholder relationships, risk oversight and implementing MCA’s strategic plan, as well as approving recommendations from the four crop committees on research and market development.
