The Next Generation of Prairie Herbicide-Resistant Weed Surveys and Surveillance

  • Start date: 2021
  • Project Length: 2 Years
  • Project Status: In Progress

Background

Benefits to MB Producers: This project will use a series of Prairie Herbicide-Resistant Weed Surveys and a coordinated strategy for biovigilance of HR weeds in the Prairie Region of Canada to increase awareness of HR weeds, guide the priorities of agricultural industry, and help growers understand how to mitigate and manage HR weeds on their farm.

Objectives:
  • Objective 1: Accessible online maps of the distribution of HR weeds in the Prairie Region of Canada based on information provided by the past Prairie HR Weed Surveys.
  • Objective 2: A composite dataset providing quantitative linkages among the presence or absence of HR weeds, on-farm management practices, and how these have changed since the early 2000s and knowledge transfer through at least nine oral presentations at scientific conferences and industry or grower meetings, two poster presentations at scientific conferences, two published Weed Survey Series Reports, two information sheets on herbicide-resistant weeds present in (1) Saskatchewan and (2) Manitoba, and one submitted manuscript to a peer-reviewed journal.
