Genetic Resilience – Enhancing excess moisture tolerance in barley through manipulation of phytoglobins

Background

Phytoglobin has been identified in Corn and Soybeans as a marker of moisture resilience. This sub project will use a similar research protocol for barley. The implications are very important for early screening of varieties that may have greater resilience in all conditions.

Objectives:
  • Objective 1: Using Phytoglobins (Pgbs) as a molecular marker to predict plant behavior to excess moisture.
  • Objective 2: Revealing mechanisms of excess moisture tolerance responses in barley.
