SUMMARY:Staying Ahead of the Curve
DESCRIPTION:As Dorothy so elegantly put it\, “Toto\, I’ve a feeling we are not in Kansas anymore.” \nThe days of pitchforks and overalls are gone; in its place\, we now have consolidation and multi-million-dollar risk. So\, how does a next-generation farmer stay ahead of the curve and out of the line of fire? Join the leadership at Maverick Ag as we break down how to monitor the finances to manage the risk. We will dive into the financial key performance indicators that every farm must know and how they directly affect expansion and capital investment on farms today\, as well as how you can remain progressive in a high-risk environment. \nThe last generation made a large portion of their wealth in land; the next generation must do the same with operations\, going back to the roots of production agriculture: growing grain. \nSpeaker Bio \nEvan Shout is the president and co-founder of Maverick Ag\, an agriculture and insurance consulting firm in Western Canada. He also sits as Chief Financial Officer at Hebert Grain Ventures\, a 40\,000-acre grain and oilseed operation in Southeast Saskatchewan\, and lead coach and co-founder at Farmer Coach\, a coaching program for primary producers in both Canada and the U.S. You can also catch him as host of The Truth About Ag Podcast that is available on the Real Agriculture Media Network. \nREGISTER TODAY

SUMMARY:Planning Without Prediction: Using Data to Improve the Odds
DESCRIPTION:Grain markets are driven by unpredictable events. Even though that truth is widely recognized\, price prediction (with all its limitations) is often the basis of many marketing plans. It’s frequently said that “history doesn’t repeat itself\, but it often rhymes.” What if grain market history is a more reliable indicator of price direction than predictions about weather\, geopolitics or crop reports? Can “the data” improve the odds of a successful marketing plan? This workshop will focus on how to use market data and history to help shape plans for marketing this year’s crop and next year’s crop\, with increased odds of success. \nSpeaker Bio \nChuck Penner founded LeftField Commodity Research in 2010. He has spent nearly 30 years working in the Canadian grain industry\, including five years as Senior Consultant in the Canadian office of Informa Economics\, one year as the Director of Marketing Strategy for Blacksheep Strategy and 15 years in various roles at United Grain Growers and Agricore United. Penner has an Agribusiness Diploma and a B.Sc. Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Manitoba. He also has a Diploma in Biblical Studies from Winkler Bible Institute. \nREGISTER TODAY
