Manitoba Crop Alliance Inc. (MCA) is a commodity organization representing wheat (spring & winter), barley, corn, sunflower and flax farmers in the province of Manitoba. Prior to August 1, 2020, farmers who grew and marketed these crops were represented by five individual commodity groups – Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association, Manitoba Corn Growers Association, National Sunflower Association of Canada, Winter Cereals Manitoba Inc. and Manitoba Flax Growers Association. On February 12 & 13, 2020, following a lengthy consultation process which began in 2018, Manitoba farmer-members of the five groups voted in favour of the special resolution to amalgamate the five previously existing organizations. Following this approval, Manitoba Crop Alliance was formed, making history in the province of Manitoba’s agriculture industry.
Manitoba Crop Alliance puts their farmer members first and strives to continuously improve the competitiveness and profitability of all crops represented by the organization, including spring wheat, winter wheat, barley, corn, sunflower and flax. Farmer members include those individuals who produced and marketed the crop types MCA represents and has remitted levy to the organization and not requested and been issued a refund. MCA focuses their work on four main areas: research, agronomy, market development and access, and communications. It is through investment in these key areas that MCA can ensure wheat, barley, corn, sunflower and flax are sustainable production choices for Manitoba farmers.
